Services
Die design and simulation, as a service
Choose a single service or combine them. Every die we design can be verified by simulation before it reaches your toolroom.
2D Die Design
A good die starts with a good layout. Our designers place the ports, bridges and welding chamber, define the bearing lengths and check the profile against your press and container.
You receive a manufacturing drawing your toolroom can work from directly, in DXF or DWG with a PDF copy for review.
- What you send
- Profile drawing (DXF or DWG)
- Alloy and temper
- Press size and container diameter
- Number of cavities, if fixed
- What you get
- Die layout: ports, bridges, welding chamber, bearings
- Manufacturing drawing in DXF or DWG
- PDF drawing set for review
- Turnaround
- Within 48 h
3D Die Design
Extrumat turns the 2D die layout into a full 3D model in minutes. Our engineers then finish the details — pockets, reliefs, bearing transitions — so the model is ready for CAM.
The model comes with a matching 2D die drawing. We deliver STEP by default, or native PTC Creo and other formats on request.
- What you send
- Profile drawing, or our 2D die design
- Tooling dimensions: die ring, backer, bolster
- Preferred CAD format
- What you get
- 3D die model in STEP or your CAD format
- 2D die drawing derived from the model
- Model ready for CAM programming
- Turnaround
- Within 48 h
Flow Simulation
ExtrusionFlow simulates how the aluminium moves through the die. Uneven exit velocity, cold welding seams and pressure peaks become visible before any steel is cut.
The report shows the results and, where needed, concrete corrections to ports and bearing lengths.
- What you send
- 3D die model (ours, or yours as STEP)
- Alloy, billet diameter and length
- Billet, container and die temperatures
- Ram speed and press capacity
- What you get
- PDF report: exit velocity, pressure, aluminium and die temperature
- Assessment of flow balance and welding quality
- Recommended corrections to ports and bearings
- Turnaround
- Within 48 h
Die Stress Simulation
Taking temperature into account, we calculate stress, strain and displacement in the die under real press load.
You see where the die is likely to crack or deflect — and how to reinforce it — before it goes into production.
- What you send
- Everything listed for flow simulation
- Die steel (e.g. H11, H13)
- Backer and bolster set-up
- What you get
- PDF report: von Mises stress, displacement and deflection
- Critical zones marked on the die
- Design recommendations to extend die life
- Turnaround
- Within 48 h
Need more than a single die?
We also deliver complete die sets from your profile, and offer annual engineering agreements for extruders who need a die expert on call without hiring one.
